PROJECT STAGES Development of a Competency Skills Builder for the Road Transport and Warehousing Industry One of the most common challenges lies in making sure that workplace training aligns to real job roles found in the workplace and that the training has meaning for the employer and the individual learner. To assist industry in identifying the right information when making decisions about suitable training and qualifications, the Skills Council is developing an electronic resource called the “Competency Skills Builder”. This resource will enable employers and employees to work collaboratively to build qualification structures in an easy and effective way. The resource will allow users to easily locate and find details of relevant qualifications electronically including full lists of the units of competencies for each qualification. The product will be useful in choosing qualifications and units of competency that can be discussed with a Registered Training Organisation. The electronic resource enables users to:

Project Steering Committee: The project steering committee will contribute industry expertise, feedback and advice to the project. The Skills Council is the project co-ordinator. Members of the committee include: two industry employers, a Registered Training Organisation, an Australian Apprenticeship Centre, a State Training Board, the Transport Workers Union and the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR).
